Question & Answer
Question
What information should be provided to support when having problems with an IBM Rational Host On-Demand macro?
Answer
Debugging macro problems requires that you provide the following items to IBM support:
- Java Console
- Trace of the macro execution
- Copy of the macro
If you have already contacted support, continue to the component-specific MustGather information.
Enable the Java console in the Java Control Panel
- Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Java
- Select Advanced tab once in the control panel
- Select Show Console under Java Console
- After problem is recreated, save the Java console
Provide a set of macro traces
Update the Host On-Demand macro with the following trace points:
- Edit the macro using the edit functions of the Macro manager.
- Add trace points in the <actions> section of the macro.
- Add this trace point to indicate starting macro code
<trace type="HODTRACE" value="'!!!!!Starting problem scenario macro code'" />
- Add this trace point to indicate end of problem scenario macro code
<trace type="HODTRACE" value="'!!!!!End of problem scenario macro code'"/>
- Recreate the problem using the Host On-Demand download or cached client with problem determination. Be sure you have Java console as described in Step 1.
- Access the Host On-Demand URL provided by the Host On-Demand Administrator.
- Log on to the host system
- On the Host On-Demand tool bar, under the Actions pull down.
- Select PROBLEM DETERMINATION
- Select TRACE FACILITY
- Under Functions, select HOST ACCESS CLASS LIBRARY
- Under Component, select TRANSPORT
- Under Trace, select LEVEL 3
- Under Functions, select Host On-Demand
- Under Component, select MACRO
- Under Trace, select LEVEL 3 (This will start both traces to the same file, along with the macro trace actions.)
- Select SETTINGS, set the file to be saved on the local machine.
- Select START
- Close the emulator session window, but do not close the trace window, and do not close the browser window,
- Restart the sessions from the Host On-Demand Session Icons in the browser window. This will capture a trace from your logon.
- Remember to reset your password as it will be captured in the trace.
- Recreate the problem.
- Select Stop on the trace window
- Select Save on the trace window
- Gather a copy of the trace files you saved, Java console, and a copy of the macro to send to IBM.
What to do Next?
Once you have collected the MustGather information, open a Service Request with IBM Support. See Service Requests & PMRs.
