MustGather: IBM Host On-Demand Macro Problems

Question & Answer

Question

What information should be provided to support when having problems with an IBM Rational Host On-Demand macro?

Answer

Debugging macro problems requires that you provide the following items to IBM support:

If you have already contacted support, continue to the component-specific MustGather information.

Enable the Java console in the Java Control Panel

  1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Java

  2. Select Advanced tab once in the control panel

  3. Select Show Console under Java Console

  4. After problem is recreated, save the Java console

Provide a set of macro traces

Update the Host On-Demand macro with the following trace points:

  1. Edit the macro using the edit functions of the Macro manager.

  2. Add trace points in the <actions> section of the macro.
    • Add this trace point to indicate starting macro code
      <trace type="HODTRACE" value="'!!!!!Starting problem scenario macro code'" />

    • Add this trace point to indicate end of problem scenario macro code
      <trace type="HODTRACE" value="'!!!!!End of problem scenario macro code'"/>

  3. Recreate the problem using the Host On-Demand download or cached client with problem determination. Be sure you have Java console as described in Step 1.

    1. Access the Host On-Demand URL provided by the Host On-Demand Administrator.
    2. Log on to the host system
    3. On the Host On-Demand tool bar, under the Actions pull down.
    4. Select PROBLEM DETERMINATION
    5. Select TRACE FACILITY
    6. Under Functions, select HOST ACCESS CLASS LIBRARY
    7. Under Component, select TRANSPORT
    8. Under Trace, select LEVEL 3
    9. Under Functions, select Host On-Demand
    10. Under Component, select MACRO
    11. Under Trace, select LEVEL 3 (This will start both traces to the same file, along with the macro trace actions.)
    12. Select SETTINGS, set the file to be saved on the local machine.
    13. Select START
    14. Close the emulator session window, but do not close the trace window, and do not close the browser window,
    15. Restart the sessions from the Host On-Demand Session Icons in the browser window. This will capture a trace from your logon.
    16. Remember to reset your password as it will be captured in the trace.
    17. Recreate the problem.
    18. Select Stop on the trace window
    19. Select Save on the trace window

  4. Gather a copy of the trace files you saved, Java console, and a copy of the macro to send to IBM.
