PK35193; 6.1.0.3: memory leak in webservices

PK35193 resolves the following problem:

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
There is a WebServices memory leak in WebSphere Application Server V6.1 release.

When you analyze Java™ Virtual Machine (JVM) Garbage Collector output from the JVM where your webservices application is deployed, you can observe that the available JVM Heap space is decreasing after each JVM Garbage Collection cycle. The available JVM Heap space is decreasing in proportion to the total number of processed Webservices requests.

You can also verify that your Application Server V6.1 Webservices application encounters this known memory leak problem if you analyze the JVM Heap dump from Application Server V6.1 JVM where your Webservices application is deployed. If your analyses show many (usually several hundred thousand) instances of
com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.client.Connection and com.ibm.ws.webservices.engine.transport.http.HTTPTransport objects on the JVM Heap then you will need to apply this iFix to your Application Server V6.1 Application Server.

RECOMMENDATION:

There is a WebServices memory leak in Application Server Version 6.1.0.2 release. The leak is related to creating connection objects.

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Resolved the memory leak issue while creating Connection object(s).

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 6.1.0.7.

A new version of the fix for this APAR that works on 6.1.0.5 (6.1.0.5-WS-WAS-IFPK35193) has been added.
