Abstract

This document describes how to download and install fix pack 7.0.0.1 IBM® Rational® Performance Tester version 7.0 for Microsoft® Windows® and Linux® operating systems.

Rational Performance Tester version 7.0.0.2 is now available. Refer to the v7.0.0.2 download document 4015502 for more information.

New in release 7.0

The following key new features are included in IBM Rational Performance Tester 7.0:

  • Resource monitoring—Resource monitoring lets you capture data such as CPU or memory usage during a test run. This feature provides a more complete view of your system to help isolate problems. You can monitor the system under test or the agents, using IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents, Windows Performance Monitor, or the UNIX® rstatd monitor.
  • Response time breakdown—Response time breakdown lets you drill down into the response time statistics on any HTTP page element. The statistics show how much time was spent in each part of the system under test. You can use response time breakdown to identify code problems. You can see which application on which server is the performance bottleneck, and then drill down further to determine exactly which package, class, or method is causing the problem.
  • Problem analysis tools—Problem analysis tools (formerly the separately available IBM Performance Optimization Toolkit) are now installed with Rational Performance Tester. These tools enable you to find and fix performance problems in distributed applications.
  • Citrix protocol testing—The Citrix Presentation Server extension enables you to load test Windows applications running on Citrix Metaframe Presentation Servers.
  • SAP protocol testing—You can use test elements such as loops, conditions and transactions anywhere in a test.
  • IP aliasing—IP aliasing lets you configure an agent so that it appears as though the load is coming from different IP addresses during an HTTP test run.
  • Digital certificates—Digital certificates let you record and run tests against servers using SSL over HTTP for applications that require client side digital certificates to authenticate users. You can create digital certificates, access them with datapools, and associate these datapools with tests.
  • Usability enhancements—Many interface and usability enhancements have been included in this latest release.

New in release 7.0.0.1

This release adds support for the Rational Tester for SOA Quality feature. For more details, see the Readme file.

If you already have Rational Performance Tester 7.0 installed, you can install this fix pack using the Update Packages wizard in the IBM Installation Manager. If you are installing Rational Performance Tester 7.0 for the first time, you can install the fix pack concurrently.

General Rational Performance Tester 7.0 Prerequisites

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 with Service Pack 1, Mozilla 1.6 or 1.7, Firefox 1.0 or 1.5 or a compatible browser, to view the release notes and the installation guide
  • Adobe Flash Player, version 6.0 release 65 (Windows) or release 69 (Linux) or later, to view the product tour
  • IBM Rational ClearQuest 7.0.0.1, for ClearQuest integration

Prerequisites

Before you can install this fix pack, you must update your Installation Manager to version 1.0.0.2. Whenever you use Installation Manager to update an installed package, it automatically updates itself if necessary. For more information, see the following Readme file.

Installation Instructions


RPT 7.0.0.1 Fix Pack

The following are three common ways to install this fix pack.

  1. If Rational Performance Tester 7.0 is already installed on your system, then you can install this update using the Update Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager. For general instructions on installing an update, refer to the section "Updating Rational Performance Tester" in the Installation Guide.
  2. If you are installing Rational Performance Tester 7.0 for the first time, then you can install this update at the same time that you install Rational Performance Tester 7.0. When you run the Installation Manager, click Check for updates on the Install page of the Install Packages wizard.
  3. To manually install the fix pack, download the RPT 7.0.0.1 package from the Download Package table below. Extract the files to a temporary directory. In the IBM Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and add the temporary directory location to the list of repositories. Use the Install Package wizard in the Installation Manager to complete the update.

By default, the fix pack is installed directly from the IBM update repository using the Installation Manager; however, it is also available for download at the bottom of this page.


Installing ClearQuest® 7.0.0.1 plugins into Rational Performance Tester
  • Download ClearQuest 7.0.0.1 from the location specified at the bottom of this page.
  • Extract the files to a temporary directory.
  • From within a running RPT Eclipse program, click Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration > Add an Extension Location and select the ClearQuest repository location (temporary directory\cq\updates\).
  • From within a running RPT Eclipse program, click Help > Software Updates > Find and Install and add the ClearQuest plugins to your Rational Performance Tester.

RTSOAQ 7.0

To install the Rational Tester for SOA Quality feature, you first must upgrade to version 7.0.0.1 of Rational Performance Tester.

  • Use the Install Packages wizard in IBM Installation Manager to add the Rational Teser for SOA Quality feature. For general instructions on installing a feature, refer to the Rational Performance Tester Installation Guide.
